Have you ever been told to create a Facebook profile for your business or been asked how many followers are you at on Instagram? Maybe you have all of these social media platforms already, but how consistent are you with all of them? Instead of biting off more than you can chew, you have to analyze and consider which is best for your business. Doing this will help accomplish business goals and reach your ideal target audience.

{ Purpose of the Platform }

Before you begin building a strategy, you want to know what your goals and objectives are for your business on social media. Why do you think your business needs social media? Once you can answer this question, then you can begin to identify the different social platforms that will be best.

{ Power in Numbers }

It is critical to know your audience and choose platforms based on where they are with your business. If you are in the fashion industry, Instagram and Pinterest may be the most suitable. Many “pinners” (Pinterest Users) mention how they use Pinterest to plan for purchases, coming mainly from visuals of outfits and wardrobe ideas. Also, you want to know the user performance and what type of traffic they are bringing in. Use your analytic insights and see how they are coming through your websites or platforms. Based on that information, figuring out if visuals or your copy content bring in more traffic will tell you what type of platform works best.

{ Knowing your Competition }

Making a detailed competitive analysis will help you gauge where your competitors are. This sort of report will figure out what your competitive landscape is and what type of social influencer or brand stands out or follows them. With information like understanding and knowing your competition, you can begin to build a plan on how to develop your target audience.

{ Becoming Memorable }

Lastly, but most importantly, after figuring out which platform suits your business best, you need to post. Posting is important to show your activeness on different platforms. Consistency is what keeps you memorable on your platform. If you go days or even months without posting, people will begin to forget who you are and sometimes may even leave or unfollow your page. Even though posting is significant, make sure your posting is intentional. If your business can have multiple platform profiles, do not post the same content on all of those profiles. Distributing the same content on all platforms is one of the biggest mistakes that leads to a lower audience and engagement rate. Each social media platform has a unique purpose. Use that purpose to create different content that you want your audience to know about the business.

Once you follow all of these points to figuring out which platform is right for you, the target audience you always wanted will begin to show. You will have larger numbers in your engagement and more presence on your platform. Remember that quality outweighs quantity, especially on social.
